  1. Obama followers taking the falls

Do any of you see the similarities between the Jonestown massacre perpetrated by Jim Jones decades ago and the actions of Obama's minions when the light of truth shines on the inner workings of his administration?

  2. Ready to pitch in for a better Jackson

Today, the dawn of a new day. And there is certainly change in the future. That is OK. That is the process. That is democracy.

    • May. 23, 2013
  3. Article on guns, children misleading

A recent (article) reprinted from USA Today ('Guns in home No. 1 reason for deaths of children,' May, 21) was misleading to the point of being disingenuous.

    • May. 23, 2013
  4. Benghazi: No doubt there was a cover-up

In the May 16 Clarion-Ledger, I saw Mr. Eugene Robinson's headline: 'Benghazi a tragedy, but political 'scandal' contrived.' Just below, was Mr. Cal Thomas' headline: 'Benghazi, IRS: Son of Watergate?'

  5. Charter school funds coming from where?

If Mississippi cannot adequately fund its current schools, how will it build, staff and maintain a separate charter school system?

    • May. 23, 2013
  6. BSA leaders deserve praise for new path

As a past Boy Scouts of America scoutmaster, who is no longer affiliated with any Scout troop, I have no authority to speak for the BSA; however, Jessica Lowery's letter, as published on May 20, struck me as all wrong.

  7. Past time to stop slaughtering babies

One would think that the horrors of 3801 Lancaster Ave., and now the alleged atrocities in Texas, would be enough to demonstrate that abortion mills are repulsive, no matter the gestational age of the infant.

  8. Public libraries well worth preserving

A senior citizen's response to 'Library group to be quizzed about costs.'

    • May. 22, 2013
  9. Ignorance of flags suggests ignorance of history

I am afraid that Mr. Joe Bush, re: 'The War didn't end with Gettysburg,' (C-L May 16), has been unduly influenced by the racially manipulative PC 'historians.'

    • May. 22, 2013
  10. Not the time to start spending again

Regarding her May 20 column, allow me to advise Ms. Evans of a basic definition she should know. Deficit is defined as 'the amount by which expenditures exceed income.'

    • May. 21, 2013
  11. Past quotes on current affairs

One of the pleasures of reading widely is to recall quotations which accurately reflect on current national affairs. The connections to the following should be readily apparent.

  12. Make use of dormant land to raise money

The YMCA had a large waterfront on the Pelahatchie circle, and it was in the way of development of lots by the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District, so they made a deal with the YMCA to move to the park, but now it may be taken away for a campground.

  13. Residents need to listen, learn, respect

The front page article in the May 17 Clarion-Ledger, 'Poll: Lee favored to win runoff,' contained information that is troubling to me.

  14. DNA testing delays inexcusable

It is my very strong belief that where DNA is available, it should be tested. My daughter might be alive today had that been the practice in 1998 when the Baton Rouge serial killer's first-known victim's case was being investigated.

  15. Change terminology for tornado reports

Do you always know what they mean when they say there is a tornado watch or tornado warning? For years, I have tried to keep them straight — unsuccessfully.

  16. Avoiding violence doesn't always work

I read an article in The Clarion-Ledger ('Violence taught when corporal punishment used,' May 14) by Thomas Weber, an assistant professor at Ole Miss who teaches public policy.

  17. Wear poppy proudly on Memorial Day

Memorial Day is coming up, and it brings back memories of my family in Natchez — my sisters, brother, cousins and later our children helping my mother and members of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars promote the sale of the red artifici

  18. Handful of Scout leaders anything but brave

Scouting helps to guide boys to be strong, faithful, trustworthy and brave men.

  19. Lumumba says so much that is wrong!

I couldn't believe some of the things that Chokwe said in his write-up Sunday that went unchallenged. First of all, this ridiculous concept that race doesn't matter in the race for Mayor in Jackson. He says, "...the color of their skin no longer matters. It's about who can deliver the goods." Right, a white democrat with great ideas and credentials would cruise right through the election for mayor! NOT!

  20. CBS 22 Racism/ Sexism Exposed

In a letter dated this month to employment agencies, CBS channel 22 declared to the world their racist and sexist tendencies. In the letter several positions were advertised as needing to be filled for employment. The shocking thing was that the letter declared that they would, above all others, prefer to hire white men.

  21. Will Rogers Paraphrased

    Dear Editor,

  22. Lee for Jackson Mayor

We need a young person with new ideas to lead us in Jackson, and I believe that man is Jonathan Lee. He has the education (BA, MBA), the experience (working with businesses, CEO, Chamber of Commerce work, social & community work), good family background, and has a vision for the city. I endorse Jonathan Lee to be the next mayor of Jackson.

  23. NOTABLE EXAMPLES OF THE FALLACY OF BULVERISM IN WORLD HISTORY:

    1. Fourteenth Century (BCE Egypt under Ramses II: "Those Israelites whine about everything. Next they'll be wanting us to give them straw for their brick-making!"

  24. Ph.D.

I just finished reading your "Lee for Mayor of Jackson" editorial. It is obvious from reading the endorsement of Lee that you are prejudicial in your choice. Although you say Lumumba is to some extent a racist, there is nothing in Lumumba's past to suggest he is a racist. If you are basing your opinion on that fact that you are afraid that Lumumba will be fair and equitable as mayor, then he is a racist.

  25. race or behavior

Here we go again. A recent article reported that black students are much more likely to be suspended than white, Latino or Asian students (May 13, Schools suspend blacks more). Although not stated, the implication is that discrimination is the reason.

  26. IRS investiges the Tea Party financials

When the FBI investigates special interest groups and spreads rumors, nothing is said.

  27. Worldwide Event: March Against Monsanto

The March Against Monsanto is a worldwide event aimed at spreading awareness about the issue of unlabeled genetically modified ingredients rampart in the American food source. Today, an estimated 75% of all foods sold in grocery stores contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs). American acreage is dominated by GMOs, with 80% of all corn crops, 85% of all cotton crops, and a whopping 90% of soy crops being GMO, as well as other foods consumed by the public.

  28. Seeking Political Assistance

Before the 2012 general election, someone called me to determine whether and how I wished to vote. He and I had a lengthy discussion of policy and he asked several times whether I'd like to run for office, but I then declined. Reform is vital, but must be done carefully; I'm not short on ideas, but I lack the resources and expertise to launch a political career. I'm not interested in being a bottom-feeder. My phone number has since changed, but my email address is Not_a_Toady@yahoo.com.

  29. Hardwood forest not being preserved

I thought you Mississippians might want to know how the Mississippi Forestry Commission and the secretary of state are managing your forests on state school sections.

  30. Could bad behavior be the real problem?

Once again the bold-type, front-page headline, 'Schools suspend blacks more' (May 13), would lead one to believe that blacks are being further discriminated against.

  31. Make Education Dept. staff take tests, too

The Mississippi Department of Education stands firmly by its mandate that these high-stakes tests measure a student's ability and four high school years of curriculum knowledge.

  32. Death penalty process terribly cruel, unusual

Leaving any person on death row for longer than six months is cruel and unusual punishment, both for them and the families of their victims.

  33. Don't forget safety while helping others

It is great that Women Build 2013 is building houses for Habitat for Humanity/Metro Jackson. Unfortunately, three of the four women pictured in the May 13 Clarion-Ledger were not wearing safety glasses to protect their eyes.

  34. Plenty of change; not much hope

President Barack Obama has just taken his 27th trip to a foreign country since his first inauguration. Will someone please take away the keys to Air Force One?

  35. ObamaGate & Jonestown

Do any of you see the similarities between the Jonestown massacre perpetrated by Jim Jones decades ago & the actions of Obama's minions when the light of truth shines on the inner workings of his administration? Each time Obama has been caught in the midst of his mob like actions, someone else falls on the sword.

    Dear Editor,

  37. Has J. Edgar returned?

With the use of the IRS as his private attack dog, Obama reminds me more & more of the "Big Machine" style of politics reminiscent of the Daly/Mob era in Chicago. No semblance of decorum, transparency, or decency; destroy everyone in the way, or speaking against you. This is worse than the heyday of J. Edgar using the FBI in the same fashion.

  39. Where's Your Evidence?

The recent IRS kerfuffel was initiated by Republican Party officials in 2011 who were concerned that their contribution base was being eroded by the explosion of the Tea Party and other related political organizations.

  40. Election 2016

No matter the debacle that results from the actions of the Obama administration, without a viable alternative, one willing to truthfully meet the problems engendered by the past 80 years of D.C. politics, 2016 will still be a banner year for Democrats & Liberals. Why? Because the same non-working, bloodsucking parasites will be the majority voters, as they were in the past two Presidential cycles.

  42. Obamacare train wreck unlikely

An impending Obamacare train wreck? Don’t bet on it. The people predicting an Obamacare train wreck when health care reform is fully implemented late this year and early next year are trying to scare people who won’t even be on the train — the 75 to 80 percent of Americans covered by health insurance. And fortunately for Obamacare, they will not be on the train either.

It is my very strong belief that where DNA is available, it should be tested. My daughter might be alive today had that been the practice in 1998 when the Baton Rouge serial killer?s first known victim?s case was being investigated. Certainly, now it should be law that DNA is tested.

  50. A Senior Citizen's Response to "Library Group to Be Quizzed about Costs"

For 70 years the public library has been a vital part of my life. Reading a book is one of the most special things in my life. Yes, I have access to a computer and a Kindle at home, but nothing can take the place of a library full of books. These quiet, peaceful buildings are a haven for so many people. It would be a shame and a disgrace for our libraries to be shut down.
