Mr. Harold Medders wrote in his June 13 letter of his concern for the national debt — $16 trillion and rising.

  3. Laws needed to protect our privacy

We let our leaders pass laws that are intended to protect U.S. citizens against our enemies, but do we have laws to protect our people?

  4. Where's the adult in Washington?

Attorney General Eric Holder is the perfect man to arm the rebels, drawing on his experience in arming the drug cartel through Fast and Furious. If it goes badly, he will have a total memory loss.

  5. Gay marriage story on Father's Day?

In reading the front page of the Clarion-Ledger on June 16, I found a disgusting error the C-L cannot correct under 'Corrections,' in the sub-page notes.

  6. We don't even make tires anymore

The June 13 Clarion-Ledger said Cooper Tires had been bought by an Indian tire company. Cooper is the last U.S.-owned tire company in operation. It has a plant up in Tupelo.

  7. Make pre-K available to all children

Sid Salter ('Miss. lags in early childhood education,' June 11) is right to back investments to make quality early education affordable. But Mississippi doesn't have to go it alone.

  8. Congradulations Mr. Mayor!

Congratulations Mr. Lumenba on winning the race for Mayor of Jackson. It's a big job with a lot of moving parts. I did a lot of things that might be considered "on the edge" when I was young, but I learned from the experience. My hope is that everyone can have the benefit of your experience and wisdom and that you are as fair to all. My vote went to the winner. Please don't disappoint the voters. David M. Bowles

  9. A sad future.

Just saw the most recent update on the most violent cities in the United States. A common thread is that all have democratic administrations.

  10. TRAITOR OR HERO

We let our leaders pass laws that are intended to protect US citizens against our enemies, but do we have laws to protect our people? It seems to me that if there is a agency that gets out of control such as the IRS it would need to be brought to light. If not, how do we keep government from becoming corrupt, allowing our enemy to take over without firing a shot as KHRUSHCHEV stated 50 years ago, that he would take our country from within.

  11. Getting To Church On Time

Congratulations to Richard White as the first elected mayor of Mississippi?s newest city of Byram, Mississippi and to all of the alderman/alderwomen elected as well. You have struggled long and hard on becoming your own. As a previous resident of that area, I am very proud of your perseverance. Although we live in Ridgeland, our church, Covenant Christian Church is located on Davis Road in Byram.

  12. Faster and more furious

Attorney general Eric Holder is the perfect man to arm the rebels drawing on his experience in arming the drug cartel through fast and furious. If it goes bad he will have a total memory loss. At least Ms Clinton had a fall (?) to cause her lapse of memory.

  13. U.S. ramping up aid to Syrians and opposition forces

There are three glaring problems with this. One is that the numbers of supposed casualties (100-150 dead in multiple incidents) from chemical weapons suggest the whole exercise is a fraud.

  14. Hinds County School District and lagoons

At the June Hinds County School Board meeting, Stephen Handley reported that the district has lost ninety nine teachers. A total of thirty nine of these teachers came from the F schools in Utica, Bolton/Edwards and D rated Raymond High School. Handley then presented an update on the creation of the Byram Town Center of which he is the district administrator along with Southeast Properties LLC.

  15. A Fair Share

What is a "Fair Share"? How does this term apply to taxes? Should a person making millions of dollars a year, creating thousands of jobs, and benefiting the world, pay a higher percentage of their income than their lowest, entry level employee? Should those writing & voting on laws be immune to the enforcement of these same laws? How is that "Fair"? Much akin to age restrictions, the enforcement of law, and the collection of taxes, should be unbiased & completely equal.

  17. The Soviet Union is No More

Another missive of warning, advising of great peril, has appeared among the letters to the editor. I immediately looked under my bed and there was the body of Nikita Khrushchev. I do not believe that he will be able to cause much harm now, except maybe to Glenn Beck. Meanwhile, I admire greatly Ms. Gamblin's work on behalf of animals.

  18. Fishing for WHAT in Madison county

( USE this letter as a guide line to ask DA Guest Questions or Print it and let him answer it, or edit it, bu this is important to Madison County and the State) Madison County DA Guest, I am curious as to why you chose ENTERGY as the company to get info on home owners? The info you claim to want is just the names of the person living in a home, Why not get the information from the City of Madison Water dept and other water Departments? They don?t have all the personal information that Entergy...

  20. Thank you Governor Bryant

It's about time someone takes a stand against Federal Government. You may remember hand out programs that evaporated and the tax payers had to pick up the cost and drop the employees. This is just another ploy to get control of the State's and the people by dangling money in the peoples eyes. The Washington bunch don't have money to give out unless it comes from our pockets. Obama Care in ten years will dump billions of dept on states to be paid.

Thanks to Sid Salter for writing in the June 5 Clarion-Ledger about Dr. Jesse W. Austin, one of the members of the group and troops of the D-Day landings (June 6), World War II veterans, who died recently.

  26. Take government back piece at a time

We now live in the Chicago mob's version of the old Soviet Union. Vladimir Putin is probably envious. Barack Obama and his thugs are guilty of abuse of power and arrogance of power with absolutely no fear whatsoever of punishment.

  28. IRS long used as political tool

Since the Carter administration, whenever a pastor spoke out against the liberal agenda, they were threatened with the IRS. The IRS may not have followed through, but they were used as a 'stick' in the 'carrot or the stick' example.

  29. MS State Finishes Off Virgnia....

This morning's Clarion Ledger featured the Mississippi State baseball team on the front pages of section A and the sports section. While I'm delighted for the team and proud of their achievements, I have to say that the Millsaps College baseball team achieved the same status in Division III baseball -- making it all the way to the world championship play-offs -- with very, very little notice.

  31. Elderly couple slain in Clinton, Miss.

Why is it that the mass media is all over the Trevon Martin case and now we have 2 elderly people in Clinton, MS that were killed. You have heard about it this week locally but in no time at all it will be dropped from the news, which never made it to the mass news media in the first place. Maybe I am wrong, but just what is the difference. In the Martin case, one life was taken, and they are calling it a race issue.

  32. Where's the Outrage?

When George Zimmerman killed a punk thug in Florida he was painted as a racist murderer. And the willing, liberal media played it to the max by purposely showing photos of Travon Martin that were at least five years old in order to portray him as the poor little innocent black that was murdered by the evil white man. However,as the truth surfaced, turns out that young Travon was a gang-banger who attacked Zimmerman.

  33. Pulpit Bias

Since the Carter Administration, whenever a pastor spoke out against the liberal agenda, they were threatened with the IRS. The IRS may not have followed through, but they were used as a "Stick" in the "Carrot or the Stick" example. Nothing has changed, the reactions from the IRS have gotten stronger. Churches are threatened with loss of tax status if they preach out against the liberals.

  34. Southern Baptists face controversy over Calvinism

I am very familiar with the verses that were deemed to proclaim predestination, but my view is that those words were spoken to a very elect group of people at a very select time...prior to the tribulation that would result in the destruction of the Jewish temple in 70 a.d. I believe that we read those scriptures today as if they were spoken directly to the people of today, when in fact they were not.

  35. Rethink No-Brainer

Reply to Archie King Letter Saturday June 8th. Mr. King made several good points. However he fails to mention or recognize that the Federal Gov't is broke. Current debt is $16 trillion and increasing $2.70 billion per day. Also the Federal Gov't doesn't make money; they take money from law-abiding citizens. Thank goodness for Phil Bryant, he understands we the people will be obligated to pay the additional cost. If Mr.

  36. Font for NY Times Crossword

I buy the Clarion Ledger every morning because it is the best MS newspaper for covering state and national news. I also look forward to the daily NY Times crossword, but often, including June 9, the Sunday crossword is so reduced in font size (perhaps half that of Friday's) that I cannot read the print and have to use a head magnifier to do so. Please give some consideration to us senior citizens in MS who love your newspaper but cannot read the small print of the NY Times crossword.

  37. Immigration - Senate Bill 744

The Senate new immigration bill, SB 744, offers amnesty but does not complete border fencing and monitoring or stop illegal immigration. SB 744 will legalize approximately 12 million illegal immigrants to receive Affirmative Action and Obama Care privileges. The Senators have also raised the number of H1B Visas from the ?quota? of 65,000 to a ?range? of 115,000 to 180,000 in a period of high unemployment.

  38. The person behind the mirror

Looking @ the many days set aside to honor myriad peoples, I wonder if this honor would be granted if the real story about the honorees were to come out? On all sides of the fence, people are chosen because of ulterior motives. Many have been made a martyr to the cause, doing more for the cause in death than they wanted to in life. No matter the person or cause, more unbiased research needs to be done before naming a day/person.

  40. Rest Assured? Not Me.

I have never been able to abide the likes of Darrell Issa, (R) California, but now he has given me a reason to conclude that he is not a complete boob, particularly in light of his investigation of the lavish indulgences engaged in by Internal Revenue Service employees at their conventions held between 2010 and 2012. He probably would not have done this had a Republican been President, but that's beside the point.

  44. Say not to 'limited' military actions

Sen. John McCain and others are urging 'limited military aid' (Patriot missiles) to the opposition in Syria. Has he learned nothing from the 10-12 years of wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, which appeared 'limited' at their start?
